Scholarship & Donation for Pace Center for Girls

Updated: Jul 11

ZCML presented our community partner with a donation

The Zonta Club of Miami Lakes continued its support of the Pace Center for Girls in Miami via an annual donation and scholarship award. Executive Director of Pace Miami, Ms. Sherry Giordano, was on hand to present the work they do, and accept our donation

Pace Miami opened its doors to the Miami in March of 2014; the ZCML has been supporting this organization almost as long as it has been in our community. Part of the larger Pace Center for Girls organization based in Jacksonville, they use a gender-specific model by recognizing that a girl's pathway into the justice system often includes a history of abuse, academic failure, and harmful relationships. While a pupil at PACE, students go through life skills classes, focusing on positive decision-making. Each girl is also assigned a counselor, who performs home visits monthly. A research study conducted in 2019 found that Pace nearly doubles the likelihood of girls being on track to graduate from high school as compared to girls with the same risk factors that did not attend Pace.
