Assembling Birthing Kits for Rural Women Globally

Updated: Jul 11, 2024

Zontas Volunteer to help the Footprints Foundation with this important project

The Footprints Foundation, has been a recipient of the ZCML support for several years in terms of donations and our time. Once of the most enjoyable collaborative activities we is the assembly of birthing kits. This year, our Zisters went to Coral Gables to help with putting together these kits for women living in remote villages in the Congo. These kits contain soap, biodegradable plastic bag, razor blade, cord ties, gloves, gauze squares, alcohol swabs and stockinette for baby’s head.

The organization’s founder, Lorna Owens, was on hand to offer simple instructions and talk about the organization’s mission. Footprints Foundation is a Florida 501(c) (3) based in Coral Gables, Florida. Its local and global mission is to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity with culturally sensitive evidence based training of doctors, nurses, midwives, and traditional birth attendants.
